VideosOverview How Samsung SDS Responds to Global Logistics Risks (Risk Management)

At Samsung SDS’s GCC, an integrated logistics control center,
global logistics flows are managed in real time
from sensing to responding to risks.

Real-time vessel & aircraft locations, transportation route,
and port congestion are monitored
to rapidly detect cargo irregularities.

First, daily global news and issues
from over 300 logistics sites are gathered

Risks are identified based on past data and
around 70 logistics risk cases are detected daily on average.

The detected risks are classified into three levels,
based on their severity
And once the impact of each risk is automatically sorted,
They are disseminated to logistics operators in real time.

What if the operations were disrupted due to a specific risk?
Through a meeting involving the risk emergency response team, logistics operators, the affected cargo is comprehensively analyzed and
alternatives that can reduce the impact are established and provided to the customer.

According to the scenario,
transportation plans are adjusted and executed.

After the situation is resolved, the response process is put together into data
and accumulated into a collection of cases
so that when a similar risk occurs,
it can be used as a reference for a prompt response.

[Use Case 1] Response to the East Coast port strike in the U.S.

Samsung SDS detected 2024 U.S. East Coast port strike
and preemptively responded to it.

Considering the possibility of the port shutdown,
Samsung SDS frontloaded customers’ containers
to prevent additional costs from occurring.

As for in-transit cargo, resumption of the strike was taken into account,
and through the emergency unloading at the first calling port in the East,
Samsung SDS provided inland transport solutions tailored to customer operational characteristics.

For cargo prior to shipment,
the West Coast port was proposed as an alternative route.

[Use Case 2] Port skip response

Samsung SDS detected a possibility of port skip in advance
for cargo to the port of Genoa, Italy.

The emergency plan was activated immediately,
and cargo was unloaded at the nearby port of La Spezia.

Through urgent inland transport,
the shipment was swiftly connected to its final destination,
preventing any delay risks.
